Decades Project

 

The Decades Project was very thought-provoking and fun.  Our group covered the 1950’s.  We researched at first anything we could find on the decade.  Then we narrowed our searches to politics and daily life.  We learned about some new events such as the “Great Smog of 1952”.  We also learned more about things we had learned in the past such as the “Space Race”, bomb shelters, presidents, advertisements, and inflation.  We all dressed up.  We had Marilyn Monroe, Lucile Ball, Elvis Pressley and a poodle skirt (sock hop) look-a-likes ;)

 

Some important events from the 50’s:

 

v  Brown vs. Board of Education – Separate is NOT equal

v  The “Great Smog of 1952” (London) - Started environmental movement

v  Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat on the bus

v  The Space Race & Fallout Shelters
